The Georgia Office of Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner licenses and regulates insurance companies, investigates reports of insurance fraud, and inspects buildings to prevent fire.

Characteristics we would look for in a progressive leader for Georgia's insurance commission include a strong, proactive focus on consumer protection with initiatives that actively shape the market to ensure fairness, affordability, and accessibility for policyholders.

Priorities might include

  • Ensuring fair, equitable, and quick resolution of disputes between policyholders and insurers.

  • Offering easy-to-understand information to educate consumers on their rights.

  • Actively reviewing and, if necessary, disapproving insurance rates that are excessive, inadequate, or discriminatory.

  • Conducting thorough examinations of company practices to ensure they comply with consumer protection regulations.
