The Attorney General is the state's chief legal officer, with duties including
giving opinions on questions of law upon requests of the governor, heads of executive departments, and other state officials
representing the state in all capital felony cases before the Georgia Supreme Court;
representing the state in all civil actions in any court
representing the state in all cases before the U.S. Supreme Court
The Attorney General has a solemn responsibility to uphold the Constitutions of Georgia and the United States, ensuring the protection of the fundamental rights of every individual. Georgia derives its strength from the rights and freedoms of its citizens. We depend on the Attorney General to rigorously safeguard reproductive rights, civil rights, and guarantee equal treatment under the law. Free speech and fair elections are essential, and political violence is unacceptable in our democracy. The Attorney General must focus on the public trust as well as prosecuting crime efficiently.
